date fields in old word documents -

In old word documents there are date fields, when i open the documents, the
dates update automatically. Ido not want them to update, how can I stop them
from updating? I have already changed the options in Word to not
automatically update links. What else can I do?

Select and toggle the field. Change { Date } to { CreateDate }

Greg Maxey has provided the solution: display field codes and then
modify the field code for your date to that of a CREATEDATE field. I
just wanted to add that the check box in the Date and Time dialog
box refers only to future insertions from that dialog box; existing
dates are not affected.
