Decreases units after completing tasks

I have tasks with one resource (JE) working at 100% (units). When I set input the hours worked (actual) for a task and then set the remaining hours to zero, it sets the task to 100% complete, but in the Gantt Chart, under the "Resource Names" column, it is displaying "JE[300%]" or "JE[26%]". Why is it doing this? Before completing the task it is set to 100% for that resource.

For example, the one with 300% next to it is a task that I estimated to take 2 hours, I entered in actual work of 2.5 hours, which effectively completed the task and set it to 100% complete. Then I look at the Gantt Chart and under Resource Names (or if I split the window to view resource details) it shows Units=300% and Work=2.5 hours.

To fix this, I am just setting the units back to 100% manually, but why is it doing this? Weird...

Thanks!!!

Hi,

Whenyou want to use task usage and get project to respect an hourly
granularity that must be the granularity of your timescale.
Set the timescale to hours, give an hours' work for every hour and the
duration will still be 3 hrs.
But if you give in work for "the day" then for Project it means you have
worked the whole day (in fact whare would it place the 3 hours? morning,
night? If you say 'it just ahs to take the values of start and finish as
tehy are why not just say the tak is 100%?

Now why it changes units because of actuals beats me too. It is a recurring
item on my wish list for future versions. It is impossible to understand why
one might have done that, but yes, it is.

I just found another piece of the puzzle to this issue. When I use the
Task Usage view to set my actual work for today, and then set remaining work
to 0 hours, I go over to the Gantt Chart and it is automatically changing my
"Duration" column to a higher number.
For example, I have a task that has 3 hours of work and 3 hours of
duration for JE assigned to it. When I go to the Task Usage view and enter
the 1.5 hours of actual work for that task, then put in 0 for remaining
work, it sets % Complete to 100. Then I go back to the Gantt Chart and I
realize that it has under the "Resources Names" column: "JE[31%]". The
duration was changed by project to say "4.8 hours", which was "3 hours"
before I updated the task. Now, realize that I changed in Project options
that 1 day = 4.8 hours, since I can never dedicated a full 8 hours to the
project I am working on. So for some reason it is changing the duration to
a full "day" or 4.8 hours, but why? It is baffling me!
Any help please!
