Delete a page

I have word on my computer. I run XP pro. I have created a document with two pages. The document is only one page long. I want to get rid of the second page. I have tried "shrink to fit" and clicking on the pane with the page number in it to delete it. Nothing works. Can someone help me?

This usually happens if you have phantom hard returns at the bottom of your
page or if the text goes down to the absolute bottom of your margin. Click
the "Show/Hide icon on your standard toolbar to turn on formatting marks.
Are there any hard returns hanging around the bottom? Try putting your
cursor at the top of the second page and pressing the "backspace" key until
the page goes away. If that doesn't work, click the "View" menu and make
sure you are in the Print layout view, click the bottom margin gray image in
the left hand ruler and slowly drag it down until the page goes away. Keep
in mind that if you get too close to the bottom, your printer might not be
able to print it. You might need to raise your top margin slightly as well.

Does this do it? If not, holler back.

Display nonprinting characters (click the ¶ button on the Standard
toolbar) and see if there are any empty paragraphs (¶) on the extra
page.
You can select and delete these.

If the document ends with a table, you might have to format the
paragraph mark following the table with 1 pt font size or format it as
hidden, to get rid of the extra page, since Word won't let you delete
that paragraph mark.

In general, there is no such thing as an "empty" page in Word. Press Ctrl+*
or click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar to display
nonprinting characters. Most likely you will see at least one paragraph mark
(¶). Delete all empty paragraphs. If your first page is completely filled by
a table, then there will be an empty paragraph on page 2 that cannot be
deleted (Word must have this to hold the document-level formatting), but you
can make it disappear by formatting it as very small (1 pt font size and
paragraph line spacing) or Hidden (you'll have to hide nonprinting
characters to make the second page disappear).
