Deleted graphics still remain in document!!

Hi all,

I'm using Microsoft Word 2002 (10.6612.6626) SP3 and have come
across a very strange animal. I had a document that I wanted to use
the same formatting for in another document... so, I copied my first
document file and began editing the copy. In my document, I had JPEG
images inside of text boxes. In my copy, I deleted the text boxes
without deleting the images first, and for some reason, the document
retained the images and now I can't delete them, leaving my copy to
sit at about a 4MB document for seven pages of only text.

I guess my question is, how can I remove the images from my
document? There is a lot of formatting and I really don't relish
copying my text into a brand-new document and reformatting all of my type.

Thanks for any ideas!

.... Mike. ^_^

Hi, Mike. On the Reviewing toolbar, click on "Accept all tracked changes in
document".

Unfortunately, that didn't work... thanks for the suggestion, tho'. I'm
completely out of ideas!

Can you actually see the images in the document, or is it the file size
that makes you think the images are still there?

No, the images are not visible. Like I said in my original message, I had
them in text boxes with some text underneath. Instead of deleting the images
and text before deleting the text box, I just deleted all of the text boxes.
I even tried it again, copying my original document and deleting the text
boxes only, and the file size does NOT change. They are still in there,
somehow!

Hi, Mike. In Word, click on Tools | Options | Save, uncheck the "Allow fast
saves" box | OK. Click on File | Versions, and make sure previous versions
are not being saved with the document. If these don't fix the problem, then
I don't know what else could cause the file size to not shrink after you
delete the images.

Well, I didn't have "Allow fast saves" checked off, and there were no
previous versions being saved. As I said, it's a very strange animal! Oh
well. Perhaps some day, somebody can solve this mystery. <LOL>

Thanks for all of your suggestions, Mr. Arbuckle. :p

Hi Mike,

To add to garfield-n-oldie's suggestions -

It's possible that the file has become corrupted.
There are a number of methods to work through those.
Here are a couple:

Check in File=>Properties to uncheck the preview choice
and see if saving the document to a new file name
using File=>Save As, makes a difference. You can also
use File=>Save As Web Page, close the reopen the document
then save as a .doc file again (be sure you're saving
as a Word 2002 Document file type in File=>Save As
