deleted registry entries causing data file management to fail...

Some registry entries were accidentally removed from the "Profiles" area of
the registry - specifically here is the registry key where they were removed
from.
"HKCurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WindowsMessagingSubsystem\Profiles\{profilename}"

The entries removed were any that referenced "Personal folders" and "archive
folders". None of the exchange mailbox specific keys were removed.

Now, ever since these keys were removed, as soon as I go into the "Data File
Management" option of the Outlook 2002 client on the machine in question, I
get the following error...

"There was an error locating one of the items needed to complete this
operation. It might have been deleted."

Indeed, it must be related to one or some of these keys that were removed. I
tried to do a detect and repair to resolve the issue but that did not work.
Then I tried a complete uninstall of Outlook 2002 and reinstall - that also
did not work.

Any ideas of what I may be able to do to resolve this issue perhaps??

Thanks, Brad

Create a new mail profile and configure it to include your accounts and
PSTs.

Perfect, that worked like a top... Don't know why I didn't think of that!!!!
I figured uninstall/reinstall would fix but the profile stuff still
remains... Forgot about that...

You are the man!

Thanks, Brad

Hopefully you did not use a Registry Cleaning tool that removed those lines. They
are all snake oil remedies

Well, not all. I've used several and they're only "snake oil" if you allow
them to remove anything they want. When I use them, I always review the
suggestions and allow them to remove only the non-dangerous values, like
file type associations for programs I've uninstalled but whose uninstallers
didn't perform an adequate cleanup. I use Glary Utilities currently.

But you know the Registry and what you are deleting in there as I do. But when most
use these tools and let the program remove it for them and on top of that they do
not know what is being removed and thinking they are saving space and making their
system faster then they are all mistaken. The Companies that put these Reg cleaning
tools out in a way claim the latter. Many if not most believe this . That is why I
say that they are all snake oil
