deleting a task

I have a task that has a sub task and for some reason I cannot entirely
delete either task. I can clear the contents and I can copy and paste and
then delete the pasted tasks. But the original two tasks will not go away.
I've tried everything I know. I highlight the rows, select delete, get the
message that the task is a summary task blah, blah and I click OK - DELETE.
But, they are still there. Any help?? This is very frustrating!!

Is this 2003 Standard? I think the SP1 resolves this.
