deleting the giant three-stripe line

How do i delete the giant three-striped line that is autoformatted into my
text whenever i type in "###" or "***". I would like to delete it, but when I
select it nothing happens!! And I would like to prevent Microsoft word from
autoformatting in this way. it is so annoying!!!!!
