department capacities over various tasks...using Project 2000

Lloyd Williams

Hi there,

in a single project file, I set up a list of resources from different
departments. To each resource I assigned a department name (I used
both the standard "group"-field and the customized grouping-code-field
1, the result reported later on was the same...).

Mr. X Dep. A
Mr. Y Dep. A
Mrs. Z Dep. B
.....

Next I assigned these resources to different tasks in the project. My
goal is now to generate a "department"-workload for all the
departments involved. I switched to the view "ressource: usage" and
selected the "group by: resource group" or "group by:
grouping-code-field 1" and all the resources of one department are
listed together....but no sums of workloads are shown! Why doesn't
Project build the sum of the workload of different resources over the
time scale?
If you use the same function for tasks and e.g. build the sum of costs
of different tasks that belong to one group: it works.

What do I have to do to get my department workload information?

Don't you have the workload total when you display tasks grouped by resource
group and sum the work field? I would interpret a workload report as saying
"Dept A contributes 800 man-hours to the project, Dept B contributes 200
man-hours..." etc. What do you mean by "workload" that is different?

Hi Lloyd,

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry.
The timephased values for groups were only added since 2002.
