Difference between Custom Field and Custom Outline code

Hi,

The question here is, i have a enterprise outline code named 'Accountable
Resource' already used in the server. I want to add one Enterprise Custom
Field with same name. Will this be a conflict as they will have same names.
Or will it not affect as both of them belong to different category (Custom
Text field and Custom Outline code).

Thanks in advance.

They will be in conflict with each other and so will have to be a different
name. In the Tools>Organizer, both are stored in the "Fields" tab so they
have to be differentiated by name.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for answering this. I have one more question?

What exactly is the difference between these two enterprise fields. In which
situations are these two used or should be used?

Thanks.

In reference to using the Project Server 2003 version of Microsoft Project,
the Project and Resource level outline codes are the only custom fields that
will make it into the OLAP cubes as dimensions. Non of the Custom Fields
nor the Task level outline codes will make it into the OLAP cube.

Also, Outline Codes are dropdown fields and can be built to have levels

Custom fields can only be a single level of drop down values or they can be
free form or calculated formulas with graphical indicators and different
summary options.
