Digital photos too large in publisher document.

I am trying to make a powerpoint presentation of new members joining our
church in 2008. I desire to have one picture per slide. The size of the photo
is too large and it locks up my computer to the point that I cannot prepare
this presentation. Approximately 60 photos. I need to know how to reduce the
size of these photos in a publisher document, if possible.
