Display Problem with Project 2003

I tried searching for a solution to my problem, but not even sure how to
describe the problem.

I have Project 2003 installed. There was no error upon installation and
have been using the program for about a month now. However, today I tried
using the program and have been experiencing a problem where nothing is
showing in the main display area of the software.

The program opens up fine, but there is nothing in the display area. I can
see the regular toolbars on top, the left pane that asks if you want to open
a new project or an existing project. Even when I open a project that I have
been working on, the file seems to open up because I see the antivirus
program scanning the file and I see the file name on the status bar at the
top. However, nothing shows up in the main display area. It's all just
white. I don't see tasks, the gantt chart or anything. When I do a print,
it goes through the printing process but the result is a blank page.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Can someone provide me with the cause
of this problem and the solution? I wish I could attach a screenshot, but I
don't see anywhere that i could.

Please help...this is urgent!!

Thanks Mike

I took a look at the FAQ page, but I don't think that's the problem, because
it happens with any project file that I try to open. The files open without
problems on other computers with Project.

On my pc, even before I try to open a file, project seems to be having
problems. Normally, when you first open Project, you should at least get a
blank project in the main area to start working. You can start adding tasks
and so forth. You see the different rows. In my case, however, I don't even
see that. I don't see anything in the main display area.

Also, I was encountering that problem regarding the GBUIDisplayToggle
registry key. I added the gbui://blank.htm site in my listed of trusted
sites before I saw the solution for the registry key. I was able to get into
project with the same display problem.

Since editing that registry key, I cannot even open Project. It just stalls
each time as it is opening.

So it seems that I am having a combination of problems. If I add the
trusted site and remove that key, I can get into project, but don't see
anyting in the main display. If i remove the trusted site and add the
registry key, I cannot even get into project.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike

I'm now able to get into Project and the files show up fine. I'm not
exactly what all I did, but when the program froze on startup, I used the
office applicaton recovery tool to try and shut it down. It didn't quite
shut down...I still had to use the task manager to close it down, and for
some reason I was able to get in.

I closed project again and tried to get in and it froze again and I had to
use the task manager to shut it down. Then I used office "save my settings
wizard" and was able to get the program to prompt to work offline or connect
to project server. When I choose offline, I get in fine...when I try to
connect, that's when the program freezes.

So it seems that the problem is related to project server and the
connection...so on to that newsgroup to see what might be causing that.

Thanks for your help.

Hi ltsolis ,

I thought it was only this project that was giving you problems. Then, from
your reply I was going to recommend a re-install of Project. Now you tell
me you're working with a server, which is yet a different kettle of fish!

Try posting on the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project
Newsgroups. FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information
can be seen at this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I have encountered the same issues with my install of Project 2003 Pro.
I am not using a server for any type of collaboration. I've removed
and re-installed the product with no change in behavior. Any
suggestions would be appreciated!
