Document size remains large after cutting pictures

One of my station users is creating a news letter that
must be Emailed to other stations. He imported a file from
another user that was full of charts and graphs, and was
over 23 Mb. He then selected the various charts and graphs
and cut them from the document. The problem is the
document size did not reflect the cut charts and graphs.
Is there some additional step he needs to undertake to
clear the items from the memory. The items were not linked
and the settings look good. he is running a windows NT4.0
machine with Office 2000 installed.

He would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

Hi Robin

If the files size is staying large after deletions and saving, the most
likely reason is that changes are still stored in the file. This could be:

* Leaving track changes on - if this is the case you need to accept the
changes
* Working with the Tools > Options Save option 'Allow Fast Saves' - if so,
change this setting as it leads to huge files and corruptions (this is an
applicaton-wide setting)
* Saving versions - look under File > Versions to see if the file is set to
automatically save versions.

However, it is also possible the file is corrupt.

Either way, you may find the easiest solution is to create a clean document
and paste in the parts of the source document you need.
