Thanks, Gordon! A follow up question for you, if I may: Can I get some
version of Office or Word that is free? Or do I have to buy?
Depends what you want to do. If you NEED ALL the functionality of
Outlook, then you can buy that on its own. (There are freeware
alternatives such as Mozilla or Thunderbird, both with Calendars, but
they are aimed more at the Outlook Express user rather than the Outlook
user). If you NEED all the functionality of Word but only basic usage
for other modules, then look at buying Works Suite.
If however you are what I would call an "average" user of word
processing, spreadsheets etc etc then it wouldn't hurt you to look at
Open Office. (
www.openoffice.org).It's free, and will read, edit and
save, MS Office documents. I've only looked at the spreadsheet module,
but that seems to do almost everything that Excel does, and certainly
everything the "average" user would need. The only thing it doesn't have
is Email or PIM, (as in Outlook) but there are several freeware
alternatives to Outlook available, as above.
