Drop Down Calendar not working in Tasks

When I try to use the drop-down Calendar to establish a start date or due date for a task, I click the drop-down arrow, a calendar opens, but when I move the cursor to select a date, the calendar disappears. This is very frustrating. What am I doing wrong, or what setting do I need to enable? Is there some reference that is required that maybe I don't have mapped correctly? I'm running XP and this is new install of Office 2003 Professional. Thanks.
