Was looking for an answer to this question and found lots of similar
questions but no answers to the question..... So I figured it out
myself.
Here goes.
When you send a TeamAssign email you must ensure that the team member
accepts it and that you update your project with this acceptance
before you send out a TeamStatus email. If you send out a TeamStatus
email, and the team member replies to it before you update the project
with their acceptance to the TeamAssign email, then they will get a
duplicate task in their task list.
