Assigning team members to tasks

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible within Project Server 2007 for a
Project Manager to assign resources to tasks within their schedule;
which then sends an auto email alert to the relevant team members
Resource Manager to approve before they are comitted to the tasks? I
am aware that the Resource Manager can set up alerts on tasks that
their team members are working on but I really need to know if it is
possible for the Resource Manager to approve the initial assignments
from the Project Manager before the team member see's it in PWA as a
"task update"?? I do know the difference between timesheets and task
updates however we are not interested in timesheets at this stage..any
suggestions?

many thanks

Hi,

Once a PM assigns a resource to a task and this is a commited resource, the
resource will be notified.

If you are after some kind of pre-approval, you may want to investigate some
time in the commited and proposed stage. Having said this, if you are after
additional "non out of the box notifications" you will need to custom develop
this extra functionality.

In order to answer your question, the answer is no not out of the box, but
the abillity to extend functionality based on custom dev :)
I hope this helps

NSCO:

There are some ways the system supports this. One of the ways is for the
Resource Managers to use the Build Team feature in PWA to actually
distribute the resources to the Project Manager, this way the PM can't use
the wrong resource. Another way to support this is to assign all the tasks
to the resource manager and have the RM reassign the work to the specific
resources. Some ideas to work with.
