Duration, work, and calendar changes

Question;
(1) I entered duration for tasks
(2) I displayed the work column.
(3) I noticed that duration and work were equal.
Then I
(4) modified the calendar work days for various resources -- showing some
available for two days a week, three days a week, etc.
(5) The duration and effort values are still the same for all resources --
shouldn't duration be generally more than effort?

Thanks in advance.

Duration is from start to finish of a task during the working time.
Work (also known as man-hours) is the number of resources you assign X
duration.
The only way they can be the same is if you have one resource assigned and
one unit. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you're saying that people don't
really work 40 hrs a week, you're right. But the software can't account
for that without your input. Efficiency, or lack thereof, has to be
accounted for by the end user. I've been teaching my clients/students
for years to change the Base Calendar to 6 hr days instead of 8. I find
that 75% efficiency is pretty reasonable in most situations.
If you're asking something else, please explain further.
Hope this helps in your world.

Thanks both for your comments -- got me going in the right direction.
I mistakenly assumed that decreasing the work days for a specific resource
in a resource calendar (and not changing the base calendar) would somehow
manifest as a difference between effort and duration.
