Dynamic Table of Contents in Word

Hello all,

I'm working on a project at my work currently that requires several TOC's to
be made for a rule book. Since this industry's rules keep changing, the
regulations contained in the book will change as well.

In a jist, what I'm trying to do is pull form information out of Word
documents and into a seperate TOC document. I'm using the form information
pulled from the Properties right now for in-document information storage. Is
there a way to pull that information out into a separate file so it will
automatically update itself when someone opens the new file? Also, it would
be nice if the TOC could "write" itself also, adding and deleting entries as
needed. Wishful thinking huh?

If you generate your ToC based on Heading styles, you can have it "write"
itself by writing a procedure that will update field codes when the document
is opened. Or, you can Right-Click on the ToC and just Update Filed. Make
sure you are building the ToC with the Command from the Insert Menu for
ToC's. It's location varies depending on which version of Word.

Search this board for info on ToC's. The Word General board would be a good
place to look as well.

I suspect your other question is also very doable, but I don't have the
programming skills to tell you how.
