hello,
i am new to setting up an e-mail account. i purchased a new notebook and
wanted to change my existing hotmail account to be able to use outlook
express. i keep getting errors on my set up but dont understand can you help.

this is the last message i recieved:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Test',
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'SMTP.microsoft.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

It looks like you are running Windows Mail instead
of Outlook Express. Apparently, your new machine
is running Vista.

Windows Mail is not compatible with HTTP accounts
like Hotmail. Have a look at the following article:

(926374) You cannot configure Windows Mail
to use a Web-based e-mail account in Windows
Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926374/en-us

Maybe you could install and use MS Outlook or
Windows Live Mail.
