Editing a spreadsheet while the presentation is running

If I copy part of a spreadsheet into powerpoint, I know I can edit the data
while in the creation mode. What I am needing to know is once we start a
presentation, can I make changes to the data in the spreadsheet without have
to exit the presentation to make the changes? This would be helpful in doing
what if scenarios while presenting to a group of people. I do know that I
could create slides and hyperlink to the slide provided I have a consistent
set of what if numbers and not an off the top of my head scenario.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA
