Email background ballons - How to disable?

I just installed Outlook 2003 on a system running Office XP. When I receive
email a small ballon pops up which is interfering with my macro program. Is
it possible to disable this?

Also was wondering if there is a way to hook Outlook into Word XP? I do not
want to upgrade to Office 2003 for just this function. Use Word is greyed
out under options, I assume since I have Word XP version.

Right-click on the Outlook icon in the System tray and uncheck "Show New
Mail Desktop Alert"

For 2 - No! You need Word 2003.
