EMAILS AUTOMATICALLY DELETE FROM INBOX WHEN MOVED TO A FOLDER

When I drag and move an email from my inbox to another folder, it will move the email but not delete the email from the inbox. If I move an email from a folder to anywhere else, it will delete it. My preference is when I move an email to another folder, the email fully moves and is deleted from the inbox. How do I make this happen? Thanks

I gave up on dragging the day after I got Entourage. I always use the Move
To drop-down item. You can find it in the Message menu, but I have added the
icon to my toolbars wherever I find it useful. I click on the arrow next to
the icon so I can choose the mailbox without a dialog box popping up.

That happens when you move a message from a folder on one server to a
folder on another server (on On My Computer).

Is that the case?
It shouldn't happen if you are moving the message within the same
server.

Your info is incomplete but I'll reply giving my best guess to your setup.

When you move a message from either an IMAP or Exchange account to folders
"On My Computer" you are copying the message from the server to your hard
drive.

Moving messages from any folder "On My Computer" to another folder is simply
a move. It does not copy.

Just think of moving files from one volume or drive to another. Same
principle.

All POP mail goes to folders "On My Computer".

All IMAP and Exchange mail goes to it's own folders.

To move you can hold the Command key as you drag and drop the messages or
you can delete the messages from your Exchange account manually by tapping
the Delete key.

If you have an Exchange account, you might be interested in this script.

Move all e-mail older than xx days from your Exchange account folders to
archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

The Leopard version is currently in beta. See this blog article to discuss
problems with the script with the author.

When dragging from one server to another, hold down the command key as
you drag - the message will then be 'moved' instead of 'copied'.

To force a copy, hold down option instead of Command.
