Emails Not Showing In My Inbox (Outlook 2003)

Dear Group

I am currently using Outlook 2003 on windows XP.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed the following
problem. For some reason some emails that are sent to me
are not showing up in my inbox, even though I see
that 'receiving email' icon pop up on my tool bar (at the
bottom right-hand corner of my screen) and I hear the tone
that sounds when a new email arrives. I realised I had a
problem when a friend tried to send me an email with a
small word attachment and for some reason it would not
arrive in my inbox - I could see the new email icon and
hear the tone but nothing would appear in my inbox. After
a few failed attempts he then tried to send via hotmail
and this worked ok (I received the email and attachment in
my inbox ok). Later I was sent another (different)
attachment from the same person and this also delivered ok
straight into my inbox. I tried searching for the email
to see whether it had been delivered to another folder but
had no luck finding it.

This seems to be happening quite frequently as I am
constantly hearing my new email message tone sound only to
find I have nothing in my inbox. But I seem to be
receiving most of my emails ok. Today I was informed that
I had been sent a couple of emails yesterday but I
definitely did not receive them in my inbox.

I have checked my disc space and I have plenty of room in
there (virtually all free as my machine is fairly new). I
also checked my 'rules & alerts' menu option and it is on
the standard setting. I have even switched off my norton
anti-spam option but I am still receiving emails that dont
register/deliver in my inbox. I have checked my junk &
spam email folders and there is nothing in there.

This is really beginning to worry me as I obviously don't
know what emails I am not receiving as there does not seem
to be a pattern as to certain host names being rejected or
not delivering in my inbox.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Make sure your View is set to "Message" and that your sort is by date (i.e.,
click the Received column right below the "Inbox" folder title).

You might try running the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe - MSKB 287497 has
some instructions)

I had the same problem - it seemed as if outlook 2003 thought it had already
downloaded the massages - they appeared on my POP3 server, I could download
them with another email program (leaving a copy on the server) - Outlook
would connect to the pop3 server but report the send/recieve process
successfully completed without actually getting any new messages. This just
started out of the blue, after outlook had been working fine.

I ran the inbox repair tool and it was fixed

Good luck
RG
