end of Front Page

I have just stated to learn Front Page 2006, but just learned that it
will not be supported by Microsoft after this year. So is there any
point in learning Front Page 2006?

I think you might mean FP 2003? I think that is the latest version
that is out. Expressions is coming out soon. Both are WYSIWYG
editors, like Dreamweaver.

A lot of people built their website using Frontpage and relied on
Frontpage and the Frontpage Server Extensions to interact with their
users (like forms, themes, search, etc) so they would not really need
any type of server side code, CSS, etc. You can check out
http://www.timeforweb.com/frontpage/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5894&PN=1

As far as learning, you should learn and know the basics of (X)HTML and
CSS. Then using Expressions, you would be able to create a great
website that is compliant.

I have a very large, photo intense website for our business which I
have built over the past several years with FrontPage beginning with
the very first version and now using FP2003.

I do not want to spend a lot of time learning CSS etc. I don't really
need it - my visitors use the SEARCH extension and a few other basic
extensions.

I'm very busy, I do the entire site myself (we have right now about
5.2 gigs of bandwidth use a day on our site).

What is going to happen if I just keep using FP2003?
Will everything keep functioning?

If I WERE going to change, what would be the easiest way to move the
entire site into some other software without hours of work and a mess
being made of the various parts that FP2003 has built and that might
not function when shifted.

Thanks,

SCD

Seems to me that as long as your web site host continues to use the existing
FP extensions then your site should continue to work.
MS will stop selling FP but I haven't read anywhere that they will
immediately stop supporting FP. But again, it's up to the folks that host
your site to continue to support you, their customer.

As long as the hosting company keeps the FPSE on, you should be fine.
But FPSE are not very secure. Microsoft has said this and that is one
reason they did not issue FPSE 2003 when a new version of Frontpage
came out.

Myself, I have not had a chance to take a look at Expressions but with
your size, it might be better if you consider someone to help you re-do
it or maybe starting using a CMS type system

I don't know about FP2006 but historically Microsoft has not stopped
supporting a product until 3 or more years after it has stopped selling it.
I'm still using FP2002 myself. Depending on exactly what your going to do
with FP2006 anything you learn with it will "transfer" to some other editor.
