Enter a group of tasks with hard-coded start/end date.

Is it possible to set up a list of tasks (just so I have them all in one
place) with no time or duration associated with it. As well, I would like to
say that those tasks start on date1 and end on date2.
ie.
TASKS 2006/03/29 2006/05/28
Task1 analyze
Task2 spec out
Task3 program

or conversely state that TASKS take 2 months regardless of the number of
tasks.

Not directly. If I understand you post, TASKS is a summarly level task. If
that is true, you cannot change the dates as they are driven by the
subordinates tasks.

Task1 will start when its linked predessor completes. If it has no
predecessor it will start in accordinance with the rules you set up under
Project/Project Information... The default is ASAP, from the start date. So
by default Task1 will start on Day1 of the project.

If you are just looking for placeholder information, you could make all the
tasks under TASKS 2mo in duration and not link them. I question why you
would do that.

If you are trying to make a generic template for a group of tasks, I would
link them together logically under TASKS with expected durations and
resources. They can then be copied and pasted (all together) to various
places on your schedule. You can then link in predecessors depending on the
final resting place of the pasted group.

I am not very clear wit the question.
Kindly articulate again
If you want all the tasks to have duration of 2months
Enter task name, write 2 months for the first task and just drag it to the
duration of last task

Since duration is the number of possible working time minutes between when a
task starts and when it ends, how can a task start on Date1 and end on Date2
and yet not have a duration (for any situation except where Date1=Date2,
that is)?

By definition, a summary task begins on the date when its earliest starting
child begins and ends on the date when its latest finishing child ends. So
without dates for the children, it's impossible to state dates for the
summary.

Remember, Project's job is to calculate the dates that you CAN achieve, not
document the dates you think you might achieve. As such it is impossible to
designate how long a summary such as TASKS should take nor is it possible to
calculate how long it probably will take without more detailed information
about its children. The schedule is an output, not an input.
