'enter' takes next line out of style formatting

word xp

i have a document with outline formatting. when i'm on a
line, say outline section 'a)', and i hit 'enter', the
cursor goes all the way to the left margin (and the style
changes to 'normal', even though the left indent for
the 'a)' section format is indented 1.5".

i guess i was thinking that 'enter' would still keep me
in the same formatting as the previous line, unless i
changed it.

any help greatly appreciated.

thx

Check the formatting of the paragraph style and ensure the following style
is set to the same style.

Hi doug,

This is for Word97, but I expect no real difference in WordXP:

I can't reproduce this in outline mode, but a solution in normal mode would
be to check the style of section a) to see what the "Style for following
paragraph" is.(Use the modify button in the Style dialog if required). You
can change that setting to the same style as section a).

HTH,

And also make sure that neither of the WordPerfect options is enabled on the
General tab of Tools | Options.
