I'm creating a gantt chart in project 98. Is there a way to enter comments
that display either within or just above the time lines?
Thanks.

Cowtoon,
Well yes, but it may not be worth the effort. I assume by "time lines"
you mean the Gantt bars.
One approach is to use a spare text field (e.g. Task Text1) to enter the
comment. Keep it short or the display is going to get very crowded and
confusing. Then go to Format/Bar Styles and in the lower portion of the
Bar Styles window, hit the "text" tab. Select which position you want
the comment to appear around or in the bar and then use the selection
list to pick out the text field you used.
Another method would be to use the drawing tool and position a text box
near the Gantt bar. This approach probably gives the most flexibility
but it will be cumbersome to set up and maintain.
A third option, and the one I recommend, is to again use a spare text
field or the Notes field and put your comment there. Then simply add
that field as a column to the table of whatever view you are using (i.e.
for the Gantt Chart view it is normally the "entry" table). The comment
won't be next to the bar, but it will show on the task row.
Hope this helps.
