Entourage 2008 crashes when I delete messages.

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I've been through all the references to this type of problem that I can find on the web. I've tried all the fixes: reinstall OS X, reinstall Office 2008, delete fonts, delete font caches, check preferences, etc.

It happens at least once a day, more often when I delete a lot of messages. All I have to do is delete 7 or 8 messages and suddenly Entourage will either crash immediately or freeze momentarily and then crash.

Is there really a fix for this other than switching to Mail?

I'm having the same problem with Version 2008. In my inbox all I have to do is delete individual emails one after another or highlight a group and then delete and highlight another group and then delete and it will crash. I have uninstalled and reinstalled same problem.

Have you tried rebuilding the database?

Hold down the option key when starting Entourage util you see the
rebuild instructions.

Please. We're way beyond that point in trying to fix this problem. If you read my first post, you'd see that I said I've tried every suggested fix.

Every time it crashes, I send the report to Microsoft. I'm sure I'm not alone. But I get the impression that Microsoft doesn't really care too much about this problem.

Your original post did not mention rebuilding the database to fix
corruption, which is the likely cause of this kind of crashing. Reinstalling
Office is not the same thing.

messages. All I have to do is delete 7 or 8 messages and suddenly
Entourage will either crash immediately or freeze momentarily and then
crash.

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in
Entourage and see if you experience the same problem. When you enter
your account info be sure to set under the Options tab in the Account
window to "leave on server" for the test.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new
User in System Preferences and test Entourage there.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to
the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office
there.

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
Office install or your base OS files. If running the Apple combo does
not fix, then you might need to do an "Archive & Install".

I suspect you'll find a new Identity does not have the problem. You can
try rebuilding your Identity, but often rebuilding does not fix
everything. How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or
you need to move to a new Identity same version or revert to an older
version)

Just about to sign out when I spotted this. Funny thing is I've just started getting exactly the same with Entourage 2004. Maybe its more than a 2008 snag??

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

It could be a problem message. Try selecting a few messages and see if
they delete rather than selecting all.

In my case (POP account Entourage 2004) - makes no difference whether I highlight one or all messages).
In each case, though, messages are unsolicited ones but the symptoms sound remarkably identical to Entourage 2008 snags listed above.
The only way I can avoid a freeze is to send myself a test message, highlight that on receipt, then select ALL and delete everything - having previously 'parked' those emails I want to retain in a temporary inbox folder!

Help! I have rebuilt my database 3 times, but every time I click on what is obviously a spamed message -- from "Monetize you Timeshare" with Subject "Will trade cash:for fees" -- then it crashes. I will try to delete a few messages with it, but I don't think it will make a difference.
What other choices do I have? Should I use Mail program instead?
