Entourage not connecting to exchange over vpn

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Hi all,
I have just up dated to Snow leopard and now entourage has stopped working properly. I use entourage to connect to a work Microsoft exchange 2003 server.

I have installed the update on my macbook and exactly the same issue there. However if I take my macbook pro in to the company and plug directly into the network all is OK and mails can be sent and received.

When connecting from home i use the mac vpn connection and it connects fine, i can also still access files from the server and a ping request works just fine. so I know the vpn connection is fine.

I can tell entourage to send/receive and the progress window very briefly shows a progress bar the promptly closes and the mail box still has not connected written next to it.

It if go into the account settings and uncheck the save password box and save the settings then click send/reeceive again it does the same again. But it does not prompt me for the password which I would expect it to do??????

I have also deleted the keychain info for the passwords and still it does not prompt me for the password.

Also I tried installing over the top of and also removing and then a fresh install and it still has the same problem.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Ian

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Snow Leopard and Entourage are both completely up to date.

My VPN connection is stable, I can ping the server and also access files on the server.

If I use the following in Safari/Firefox I can access any exchange mailbox I like. http://server/exchange (Were server is the IP address of the server)

Interesting I have just noted that every time I go to close entourage it tells me that a network operation is still in progress I'm i sure i want to quit.

As I said previously I assume (maybe incorrectly) that the issue is with entourage somewhere as I can leave the password fields blank, and it simply ill not ask me for a password, so its not trying.

Any thoughts?

I may try this afternoon un-installing entourage again, and doing a search for anything entourage relevant and deleting that too before installing agin.

Got a gearbox to fit back in a Saxo first though :)

I have to agree with Barry that if Entourage works while inside your
network but not through VPN, then VPN is your issue. Installing
Entourage again stands little chance of getting it fixed if it's not
what's broken.

Are you using Apple's VPN software or do you have to install a
third-party VPN product? If using a third-party product, have you
checked for updates specific for Snow Leopard?

Did you select to save the password in your Keychain?

Hi,
Yes I have selected save password to keychain. I have also tried to get it to prompt for password by removing the save password option and still no luck. It does not prompt me for a password then.

Sound advice that makes sense mate. Entourage is working whilst in the network so theory says no issue there (sounds simple to think of it that way now you say it :)

I am using apple VPN.

I have tried setting up a new VPN connection incase there was an issue with the old one that got "upgraded" to snow leopard. this had no effect. I have also tried checking the send all data over VPN connection box. Again with no effect.

Can you suggest anything else for me to try?

Cheers, for all the advice so far.

If you remove in the Keychain, you can force it to ask again.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

I created a new user account and have exactly the same issues.

I will try another VPN program later today. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have found that I could not VPN using the Apple VPN client using the
domain name, as soon as I changed the server address to an ip address it
worked fine
