Entourage quit unexpectedly

I've searched this forum and have done some troubleshooting but haven't been able to resolve my issue. I've been using Office 2004 for Mac for some time and recently decided to launch Entourage (for the first time). Using the office assistant I connected to Gmail's IMAP service and while running the schedule "send and receive all" the application unexpectedly quit...and continues to do so. What do I need to do?

What version of Entourage 2004? Have you updated? Were you having any
problems with other Office applications?

See this link for help with unexpected quits.

The solutions though do not seem to be associated with Send & Receive.
Entourage rarely crashes on Send & Receive.

If you can isolate where the problem is located it's easier to fix.

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
if it's your User's folder that contains the problem. This eliminates not
only your User's folder but the Entourage Identity you have set up.

Is the Gmail account new? I'm thinking that maybe a weird email is causing
the problem and Entourage is somehow choking on it....but then as I
mentioned Entourage rarely does the unexpected quit on Send & Receive.

Let me know what you find in your testing.

I am using Office 2008. Problems have started as soon as I applied the latest software updates from Apple.

Safari doesn't start - just bounces and then shuts up. AddressBook doesn't start, Entourage starts fine, but every time I open an email that has Rich Text content, it crashes.

From the error log it seems like some module - webCore is crashing while parsing HTML...

I have Office 2004 Student/Teacher, recently updated with no problems in other office applications. At start up Entourage checks for new messages and states that schedule "send & receive all" will run in 9 minutes. After this time, Entourage begins receiving mail messages then closes. Strangely, all my mail can appears in the Entourage mail folder but a problem is encountered when send & receive initiates.

Download this script and place it in the Entourage Script Menu Items folder.
Select the script to run. It will give you all the info on your Office
applications and the versions. Select "Copy to clipboard" and paste in your
reply.

Are you saying it closes or quits after download mail? Exactly what problem
occurs when Send & Receive initiates?

Did you test in a new User? I also asked other questions that you did not
bother to answer. I can only help you if you do what is asked.

Thank you. I mentioned that my software was recently updated. Here's the details:

Last update applied: 11.5.1

Microsoft Entourage: 11.4.0
Microsoft Excel: 11.5.1
Microsoft Word: 11.5.0
Microsoft PowerPoint: 11.5.1
Microsoft Component Plugin: 11.5.1
Junk E-Mail Protection: 11.3.4
Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S165)

Aside from that, the only question I didn't address is whether or not the Gmail account is new. No, I've had this account for a few years.

Again, the problem is that Entourage shuts down after trying to "send and receive". After launching Entourage and using set up assistant to connect to my Gmail service, the Entourage prompt reads "checking for messages" then "schedule send & receive all will run in 9 minutes". After the 9 minutes lapses and send and receive initiates the application immediately closes.

Note: All the messages in Entourage are current with my email account.

Also, please correct me if I'm wrong but why would I need to test under a new user? Wouldn't I get the same results? Again, this the first time I've used Entourage and tried to set up an identity in Office.

Thanks for your help

Microsoft Component Plugin: 11.5.1

We often have users tell us they are updated, but are now and there have
been so many problems updating Office 2008 that I needed to be sure. The
Microsoft Component Plugin is always updated even though each individual
application is not.
Aside from that, the only question I didn't address is whether or not the
Gmail account is new. No, I've had this account for a few years.

Thanks for this info.
Again, the problem is that Entourage shuts down after trying to "send and
receive". After launching Entourage and using set up assistant to connect to
my Gmail service,

"using the Setup Assistant" You don't normally use the Setup Assistant to
get your emails. Something is wrong here. Explain exactly what you do to
download? Did you set up a schedule? Is the Entourage main window open?

There is a problem where the Setup Assistant loops, but the Setup Assistant
does not connect to download your mail. Perhaps the terminology you are
using is incorrect. Identity and User is often mixed up.
Also, please correct me if I'm wrong but why would I need to test under a new
user? Wouldn't I get the same results? Again, this the first time I've used
Entourage and tried to set up an identity in Office.

It verifies is there is anything in your User's folder that is causing this.
It's fairly quick and a good way to eliminate anything in your User's
folder.
