Entourage requires a Force Quit which is unsuccessful and freezes the system

I have been having a real problem with Entourage. The working
Kalaidescope will appear and not go away. When I check, Entourage is
not responding. When I force quit, it does not successfully quit and
the system freezes. To shut down I have to hold the power button down,
I cant shut down my Mac from the finder command.

I'm running:

Entourage Mac 2004 11.3.2
Mac OS X 10.4.8
MacBook Pro

Any help would be appreciated....Entourage has basically become
non-functional as I'm constantly required to shut down my system! Let
me know if there is additional information required to help trouble
shoot.

Thanks,
David

Try creating or logging as a different system user. Does the problem still
occur?

Do you use Projects, and if yes, did you include a lot of contacts with
a lot of e-mails in your projects??

Corentin - Thanks for the message - I don't use projects and don't have
a lot of contacts I'm using in emails

Barry - I created and logged in as a different user, and Entourage
appeared to be stable, though with no accounts set up and no email in
the inbox, its hard to tell...can you suggest a next step to
troubleshoot...

Thanks,
David

OK, if it's stable there, then that indicates the application installation
is OK, but there may be a problem in the support files or data files.

Next step is to log back in as your original system user and move the folder
'~/Library/preferences/Microsoft/' to the desktop. Then log out and back in
again then try entourage - is it stable now? If so, a prefs file must have
been corrupted, simply reset the prefs the way you like them and all should
be OK.

If the crashes still occur, try rebuilding the database, or, if you already
tried that, creating a new identity (Entourage menu, 'switch identity',
'New...').

Try these steps then report back, please.

Thank you Barry....I tried to move preferences to the desktop, but I
don't have a "microsoft" folder in my Library>Preferences folder.
Might I find it elsewhere?

Found it!....it appears to be stable. I'll keep you posted. Thanks so
much for your insight.

I think it was deleting the microsoft preferences, but I can't be sure.
Hope the problem doesn't return!

Deleting Microsoft preferences seems to fix the problem for a while,
but it does come back at least once per week so seems to me like there
is some fundamental problem

It has left me considering switching to Mac Mail and related programs

Consider this...it's not a problem that is affecting other Mac users. I have
no clue as to what to suggest with constant preference corruption as this
has never come up.
