Error 1311

L

Loftus

I have attempted to instal Office 2000 on top of my
existing Office 97 but each time the CD runs it throws up
the message "Error 1311. Source file not found:
D:Office.1.CAB. Verify that the file exists and that you
can access it." I have tried the solution suggested in
microsoft Knowledge Base Article 299274 (installing the
programme on to the hard disk and then attempting to
instal it from there) but again without success. Any
suggestions please?

Hi Loftus;

You stated "Knowledge Base Article 299274 (installing the | programme on

without success. Any suggestions please?"

Did you actually Copy the entire contents of the CD to your HardDisk
(without error) and the run Setup from there and still recieve the error
message "Error 1311, source file not found, office1.cab. Verify that the
file is accessible."

Is the copy of Office 2000 you have an Upgrade version or full retail
version?

If the Office 2000 CD you have is Full Retail try the following;

1. Uninstall Office97 Completely.
2. Run the OFFCLEAN Utility and do an "Aggressive Clean" clean, the
OFFCLEAN tool is available
at the following location.
VALUPACK\OFFCLEAN directory on the Office97 CD.
3. Run the Eraser97 Utility which can be downloaded from the following
location;
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q176/8/23.asp
(Q176823) OFF97: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office 97
Files.
4. Go thru the following Knowledgebase Articles Completely.
(Q160044) OFF97: Clicking "Remove All" In Setup Leaves Some Files.
(Q158658) OFF97: How to Completely Remove Microsoft Office 97.
(Q254250) OFF97: How to Completely Remove Microsoft Office 97 on
Windows 2000 .
5. Reinstall 2000 from your local Hard Disk and see if the issue persists.

If none of this works you may also have a Faulty CD and a replacement CD
may be needed.
