Error: Access Denied

AlanS

Installed PS2007 wth all components on a single server (SSSF install). Trying
to log in as a domain user always gives this error.

Local users don't have the same issue.

Any ideas on what I may have missed? If any further information about the
build is required just let me know.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

was this installed on Server 2003 or 2008?

what installation option did you select during the install? Basic or
Advanced?
what service accounts were used? Domain or local?

Hi Dharmesh,

Thanks for replying. Answers to your questions are:

All software installed on Server 2003

Hi,

Do you get some sort of error message when trying to acess PWA?

has the site been added as a trusted site? is there any network policies
that can stop the server being seen on the network?

Hi,

I get a page telling me the following:

Yellow band across with 'Go back to site' link and underneath that in large
text Error: Access Denied

In main area of page it telles me what UserID I'm logged onto the network as
(DOMAIN/username) followed by a link to 'Sign in as a different user'

No other messages, error or otherwise, show.

There are no network policies in place to prevent my access to the server.

I can reach the server to run SQL management studio using my account without
any issues, so I am reasonbly certain that the fault is within PS2K7.

Thanks again for help.

Hi Alan,

If you follow the link to sign in as a different user, what issue do you
face? can you try to login now?

Please confirm that the site has been added to the trusted site list.

I get a windows login prompt. If I enter my personal credentials I get the
same error. If I enter the Administrator credentials I get access to PWA.
I've checked the Security and Application Event logs. My credentials are
successfully authorized by Windows but there is nothing in the
Application/Stsyem/Security logs to say I've been accepted or rejected by PWA.

I am the only registered user apart from the admin user registered inside PWA.

The site is in the Trusted site list albeit the root that is http://servername

Thanks again...

Hi Gary,

Thanks for responding. The user is registered in Project Server as a domain
account (DOMAIN\User Name). This is my default network login. I guess my
questions at this point would be:

Can I use domain accounts as user accounts in PS
If so do I need to use Kerberos authentication?
How do I determine a user it is setup properly?

Thanks again for you help

Hi Gary: i have a similar problem:
New install of Proj. Svr 2007/sharepoint ent. 2007 on w2k3 R2 server.
I can login to PWA with the service admin account but not any other accounts
i've created in PWA or Sharepoint Central.
Note, no projects have been added at this point.
What did I miss?

Stan:

During the installation you specified an account as the Project Server
Administrator. This account should have access. The next step is to add
accounts to Project Server to allow others to access the system. The system
does not authenticate you simply because you have a domain account.

Hi Gary...thanks for the response. As stated in my original 'whining', I did
create several accounts in ProjSvr and SharePoint. none work except for the
service admin.

found it. for those who still can't get it to work...
connect to PWA as the service account user
from the HOME page, select: Server Settings in the left frame
Under Security, select: Manage users and add your users, groups, etc.
not one article i googled mentioned this. Not even the MS KB's.

I know, it sounds simple, but it's not covered in the Initial installation
docs. For those of us who manage other apps besides PWA (i.e. the real world
admins) it would be nice if the HOW TO's were more...explicit.

Gary, you've always been a big help...thanks for listening.
