error detect and repair Office 2003

does anyone know what this means:
no valid sequene could be found for the set of patches
error that pops up when I try to do a detect and repair in an Office 2003
application.
Also in add/remove programs I am unable to remove Office 2003 or make any
changes. I get nothing or same message.
