Error message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."

When try to open a Word document, it loads and then the
Word closes randomly. When I try to re-open the document
(or any document), it closes again and I get the error
message, "There was a problem sending the command to the
program."

I've deleted/un-installed and re-installed Word numerous
times, and nothing works. So, I delete/un-installed it
again, ran Scan Disc and Disk Defragmenter. After that, I
installed it one more time and it still has this problem.

What can I do to fix it?

By the way, I used Word 2000 (the disc came with my
computer) and I have Windows 98se

I would check for any known Word add-ins first. Then I would look for
unknown/unexpected parasites using AdAware and/or Spybot.

Thanks. I ran AdAware, but it didn't find anything more
than what it normally finds (just cookies). What do you
mean add-ins?

Try SpyBot Search&Destroy too, it's a good complement to Ad Aware.
