error message "unable to start processing services" ???

after recent updates to Office Small Business Edition 2003 I started
receiving error message "Unable to start processing services" shortly after I
start Outlook, sometimes resulting in error reporting and closing the
application, other times not. Also sometimes get "Unable to open busy/free
data" when I open an appointment.
