Error Message when opening Attachements

I get the following error periodically when I try to open an attachement
usually Excel. I go to open the file and then I get a white screen it hangs
for about a minute and then the following error is returned "An error occured
in sending the command to the application' I close the error message and go
to open the file and then it works. Any ideas?
