error messages opening publisher files

I have been unable to open some Publisher files sinces installing Windows XP,
how can I open these?

Do you have Norton, disable script blocking and in Norton Options,
misc..disable Office Plug-in. You might want to disable any anti-virus software
you may have and see if you can open the files.
