everytime I open front page and click on a file
I get Microsoft has encountered a problem and
needs to close.

Linda,

If you haven't already done so, try running a Detect and
repair on FP. Open FP, go to Help and then select detect
and Repair.

You will need your disk for this. You can do a D and T,
reinstall or uninstall and reinstall.
