EVM:Why is my SV negative for tasks that aren't even set to start

I have several tasks on my project schedule that have negative Schedule
Variances, even though they haven't started yet.

Here's a simple example:

Status Date = 2/28/09

A task set to start on 3/3 with a duration of 1 day, assigned to a resource
that is allocated at 80%. PV = $148.53, EAC = $600, and SV = ($148.53).

Why is the SV negative?

I've read lots of EVM/MS-Project material, and have found nothing that would
explain this.

Help.

Thanks!

Hi Joe

This task is now set to start on 3/3 or even in Baseline this was so? You
may check on that because variance calculations would be with respect to the
baseline.

I hope it helps
