I have a problem with a large (35 Mb) Excel spreadsheet that refuses t
open on my users Windows 2000 PC's. All the PC's are running Offic
2000 SP3, but the file will only open on PC's running Windows XP.
have recreated users local profiles, which has not fixed the problem
and also copied the file from the network share to the local PC's. Whe
opening the file, Excel says "Ready" in the bottom left hand corner o
the screen, but the file is not listed in the "recently accessed" lis
and the Excel window is blank

Just guesses:

When you tried to open the workbook, did you do a File|open or double click on
them in windows explorer?

If you didn't use file|open, try that.

If you did, try opening excel in safe mode:

close excel
windows start button|run
excel /safe
then
File|open your workbook.

If it opens this way, maybe it's not the workbook that's causing the trouble.

Chip Pearson has some notes to help diagnose startup problems at:

You may want to try cleaning the windows temp folder, too. It might not help,
but it won't hurt.

(But it would be a pretty good coincidence that this was the problem on all the
pc's--but it won't hurt to try.)
