All of a sudden, I cannot run Excel 2004. It gets through startup, begins to put up a new spreadsheet and then crashes. I am running the latest version of Excel and of OSX and have not changed anything major that I know of related to this problem. I have repaired permissions, restarted etc. but no help.

Did you have a crash previously?

Can you start up with the Shift key down? If so, quit and see if you can
start up normally.

Have you tried renaming/deleting your XL preference files?

I have been using it routinely for a long time and it has always worked. A while back I installed Office 2008 and have been running the two in parallel for a long time. I use the 2004 version when I need to output graphs in PICT (which 2008 can't do for some reason). I tried throwing away preferences, restarting, repairing permissions. It goes through the whole startup process, opens the window of the spreadsheet and then crashes.
