Excel 2007 to Excel 2008 problems

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have created a spreadsheet in Windows on an XP machine using Excel 2007 and saved in both .xls and .xlsx formats. I used a jump drive to move between PC to Mac hard drive. When I attempt to open either I get the following message:
"the file might have been damaged or modified from its original format"

I am running Office 2008 Excel

Thanks

This could very well be originating on the PC side. Make certain that Office
2007 is fully updated there, save a new copy of the file & see if it
provides better results.

Since you don't specify your exact Office 2008 update level you should
confirm that as well. Lack of updates is the most common cause.

Excel 08 opens the smallsimple files from Excel 07 in both formats xls and xlsx, but continues to gives us an error message on larger files (1mg and larger) with multiple tabs.

Both Excel products are up to date.

Excel 08 ver. 12.2.4

Hi

Did you follow Bob's recommendation to open and then use Save As to
re-save the files before you try to send them from the PC to the Mac?

Having the updates installed isn't enough. You have to open each file,
then use Save-As from Windows side after you have installed the updates
on the Windows side to fix the problem.

Some problems have been reported with USB drives. If you have re-saved
the files after updating Windows Office, try using Winzip to zip the
files before you put them into the jump drive.

Additional to Jim's suggestion, try zipping & emailing as an attachment. See
if that makes any difference.

I've seen similar situations if the file is saved directly to the stick from
an app rather than copying it using an Explorer window. Larger files can get
fragmented & when copied to another HD it seems like something can be lost
in the process.

There's also the possibility that something about the content of the files
is not recognizable by 2008. There are a number of new doodads in the
Windows 2007 version that aren't yet supported by the Mac version. Usually
they don't prevent the file from opening but it depends on the quantity &
combination of what's been used.

If things still don't work out by following the steps provided by Bob and Jim, do you mind sending me your workbook ([email protected])? We will further investigate what could be wrong with the Windows-XL-created workbook.
