Excel 4.0 Quits

Excel 4.0 quits whenever I click in the top menu. Is there a fix or
workaround?

I have lots of charts that need cleanup when opened in Excel 2004 and
I'd like to use 4.0 till the cleanup is done.

System is an iMac G5, OSX 1.4.6, Office 2004 (plus bits of older
versions of office, like Excel 4.0)

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with Excel 4.0 transplanted from a
beige G3 running OS 9.2.2 to a Mac mini running Tiger.

I can use Excel 4.0 almost normally, but clicking in the top menu
causes Classic to quit.
This means that I cannot use the many custom-made macros that do all
the routine work in keeping my personal accounts. Also, functions like
linking, (requiring access to the File and Edit menus) are out of
reach.

I have tried trashing all the files that could be related to Excel
except the 4.0 fies. and restarted. No change.
I then trashed the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library >
Caches folder:
1. com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
2. com.apple.LaunchServices-014501.csstore
restarted and emptied the trash. Still no change.

Finally I trashed the Home > Library > Preferences >
com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file, restarted and emptied the trash.
However, as before, when Excel 4.0 was launched, any clicking on the
upper menu bar caused Classic to quit.

That top menu bar clearly does not belong to Excel 4.0 How can I
replace it with the original menu bar?

Looks like we gone down the same paths. Unfortunately, no one has come
up with a solution.
