Excel cell protection

Can you tell me how to protect a cell in Excel where there
is a formula so that only the total or whatever changes
when data entered but if I accidentally try to type over
the formula it wont let me?

Select the sheet (click select all button), do format>cells>protection,
uncheck locked, now select the cell
with the formula and select locked for that cell only (if you don't want the
formula to be visible in the formula bar you can also check hidden)
then do tools>protection>protect sheet.
