Excel Object

I don't seem to be able to insert/edit an Excel file in
Powerpoint without Excel running in the background. I'm
running XP both Windows and Office. Am I doing something
wrong or is this how this function works?

How are you inserting the Excel file? What happens when you try to edit the
file and Excel isn't open?

When Excel isn't open, I get an error message..."The
server application, source files, or item can't be found,
or returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall
the server application." Well I'm not working on a server
so this makes no sense to me. I reinstalled Office and
got the same message but when I have Excel open, editing
the sheet in Power Point works. I just don't know why and
is this the way I should be doing this type of work?
Thanks,

Ah. I wondered if that might be what was happening. Check the
troubleshooting steps at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00236.htm

Since you're using Office XP, I'd probably first suspect Norton
AntiVirus.
