Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

When I try to open a file, I get a message in a box titled Graphics Filter. The message is "Converting: Metafile. It continues into a never ending loop.

I have requested files in different formats and the results are the same.

Without seeing the original file I can't be 100% certain but it sounds like a
classic scenario :) The file apparently contains graphic elements of a type
not supported by the Mac OS. As a result those elements can't be rendered &
it's causing Excel to hang. Try holding Shift while using File> Open to see
if you can open it that way.

You may have to have the originator open it in PC Excel & remove the graphic
elements before sending you another copy - just changing the file format
won't help unless they use something very basic such as .csv which is
probably not preferred.

No Luck. I tried what you suggested but Excel did the same thing. A box titled Graphics Filter gave the message "Converting: Metafile." It then loops and never ends. I thought that this file was a generic numeric spreadsheet with little to no need for graphics, but I will have to ask my PC freind again about the nature of the file to see what graphics might cause this problem.
