does anyone know how to customize the length of a cell? I am trying to
customize a worksheet to insert into a word template.

Cells don't have a width property. Instead you can set the entire column
width. See "Change column width or row height" in XL Help.

also, is there a way to adjust column length in inches, or show some
kind of ruler?
Its seems really stupid that it measures it in characters...I need to
make it an exact size.

Mac XL 2004 allows you to adjust column width and row height in inches
or cm.

No Windows XL versions do.

Well, based on my experience, it's mostly a list tool, at least as
measured by the percentage of workbooks out there <g>. Math is rather a
distant second.

And even math tools can use inches/cm to set column widths...

Yes, a secretary at my office was using Excel to list the petty cash
receipts and their amounts... and was calculating their sum with the desktop
calculator, the real physical one ;-))

Lol. Yes, my experience also. So a car is a sculpture, since it's big and
stands still most of the time. Transportation is a distant second ;-)

Best wishes Harald
