expert question on macros and toolbars

I have a serie of toolbars full of little macros in normal.dot. I just
realize we can copy toolbars on other template dot document and i did and the
maros seem to work but when i go in tools > macros and look for them they are
not there in that other dot document.
1- How do they work? is it from normal. dot and if so then if normal.dot
failed or is corrupted, will I lose all my works
2- How do I copy macros that pertain for each other dot document to make
sure i have them in double and can recopy them if need be?
I hope it is not too confusing

And make sure you look up using global templates to hold your code, toolbars,
AutoText or anything else you do not want to lose. Normal.dot is not a very
good place to hold your work. Because it takes great deal of read and
writes, normal.dot tends to get corrupted. With Word problems, one of the
first things tech support may attempt is deleting normal.dot. Or a standard
normal.dot may be pushed down.

Storing personal work there is almost foolhardy. It can get lost. Store it
in a template file, and either load it automatically (in the Program Files
/Office /Startup folder - NOT the Doc & Settiong/username/..../Startup); or
load it for a current session using Tools > Templates and Addins.

Note that if loaded globally, you can still open the template file itself
and edit it.

The macros are still in normal.dot. Toolbars just find the macros and run
them. When you move your macros, you'll need to keep them in a module of the
same name for the toolbars to have any chance of working. I try to keep
macros and toolbars that use them in the same template to simplify things.
