Getting macro template to work in Vista?

E

Ed from AZ

We've had a series of computer and OS changes here at work over the
years. I got into macros with Word and Windows 2000. I had macros in
both Normal.dot and MyMacros.dot template files. These survived our
upgrades through Windows XP and Word XP and 2007. Losing all my
toolbars in Word 2007 wa a bit of a shock, but I managed to fumble
along.

Last week, I got a new computer with Vista (probably 64-bit, but I'm
not sure and don't know how to tell). THey migrated all my normal
files from my old computer, but didn't think of my templates. They
managed to retrieve them for me, and I put them both in AppData\Roaming
\Microsoft\Templates.

The Normal macros show up, but the MyMacros template doesn't load.
The macros don't show under ALT+F8, and the template isn't loaded in
ALT+F11. I even opened MyMAcros.dot and saved it as MyMacros.dotm -
still no joy.

Can someone help me get this to work in Vista, please?

Hi Ed

Try putting MyMacros.dot in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup instead.

Hi Ed,

Move the MyMacros.dot (or .dotm, it doesn't really matter for this purpose)
to AppData\Roaming \Microsoft\Word\Startup. Then it will load each time Word
starts executing, and its macros will be available in all documents.

After doing this, you'll see the Project(MyMacros) item in the VBA editor
but you won't be able to open it for editing unless you first use Office
button > Open to open MyMacros.dot as if it's a document.

By the way, other than the path Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming instead of
Documents and Settings\<name>\Application Data, none of this is different
from previous versions (read
http://word.mvps.org/Faqs/Customization/WhatTemplatesStore.htm).

Thank you, Jay and Jonathan!! I'm back in business! (As long as they
haven't changed the security settings, too ......)
